Voipnow APPS licensing from third party provider

How do we start getting a list of people willing to "License" or "purchase" these sort of apps per month?

Basic features like "Click2call", Call monitoring, Statistical wall boards, integrated call stats etc.

We have a team working on these at our own pace but if we can see interest and commitments of individuals willing to license the "Apps" from us... then we would be more motivated to get these up much faster.

We are looking at a "Non" client... using the API and "Apps" the way that 4psa has now laid it out.

If I can get some likes or an "i'm in" comment then we can get a guage of how many possible "Clients" we can have.

Tell me "I'm in" and how many active users/extensions you feel would use these items and this way we can guage how much more we should invest in getting this up for all of us to use.

Thanks and please participate :)

  • Remember... we want to see how many instances of VN3 are out there, how many users/extension/organizations/service providers we would have access to so we can get a better idea of potential market.

This DATA is not freely available and from what i see on this forum, There are not that many so far.

We love it... but... we want to know how many more of "US" there are out there.

And of course the most popular that I can see on the site...

    http://my.4psa.com/4psa/topics/vn_des...

Most of those are 7 + months old... it's starting to feel like this is an abandoned product and idea... I know its not as I just paid my licensing again :)

Where did everyone go? Where are the apps?

We are more than happy to build, develop, host, license and deploy what we have in the pipe... Just scary to see such a fragmented level of requests.

Like I said at the top... tell us what apps you think you want, give me examples of other software that does it, tell us how many instances you feel you would need to deploy... More participants means we work harder and faster to get them out commercially.
    • if it's anything like our experience so far as a developer - it's pretty limited... we've umped on board and found the API lacking a LOT of what we expected to be there.... could really do with a major update to the API. then the developer community could get going (I think that could mean you and me by the look of recent posts!!) and give everything a bit of a kickstart.

were looking to use the solution ourselves and sell to other customers.... but we can't offer what they want at the moment.

We started to develop a call center application, and quickly realized the 4PSA API is just bad. Creating anything meaningful (such as live queue monitoring etc) was pretty much out of the question.

The only feasible way was to use AMI / Asterisk API. Unfortunately right now we just don't have the time to develop an entire platform to go around VoipNow.

Also, not being able to accurately determine potential clients is a serious pitfall. Obviously utilizing the VoipNOW API restricts you to ONLY 4PSA VoipNOW Customers. I'm sure other people came to the same conclusion... (hence the dead topics)

    • it may be worthwhile developing the entire platform around voipnow3, as voipnow has a stable billing system, and its multi-tenant architecture is second to none.
If you're planning the standard Asterisk with A2billing, think again....we've paid the school fees, and all failures route us back to Voipnow for an attempt to create an API/App on it.

So right now, with thousands of users on multiple VN2.5s, and nearing 30+ Voipnow 3 servers, we're still looking to develop our first voipnow App...

With very little participation from 4PSA and lack of ideas or 'lamers' information on what Apps voipnow3 is actually capable of, there's little we can lay a foundation upon.

If 4PSA could at least inform us what Apps are achievable with VN3, we can get cracking in forming such apps.
    • excuse my ignorance here - what is AMI / Asterisk API?

  • Thank you and good point... I have sent an email to Ceo@4psa.com and my sales rep Iohana asking what the monthly paid market actually is... i wonder if I will actually get a participating answer or not...

The api voice VN seems like it COULD do a lot of the things that we would need. Would love to chat with you about the pitfalls you found to save us from running into them or possibly finding some solutions for them together.

  • The issue is that everyone needs it, everyone wants it, but no one is committing.
    I've created an online worksheet
    https://docs.google.com/document/d/1F...

there's plenty interest, but no one is even as much as adding ideas or suggestions on the doc...sad sad indeed.

I'm not sure on how to motivate a group project.
The VoIPNow API is good to go in VoipNow3, even for call center solutions. We cannot afford to spend so much money in developing one, so we need assistance from other VoIPNow3 users.

As for now, we've engaged with various other companies for various services. A call center vendor with a working and established call center solution.

We're also considering joining the Microsoft Lync UC program and become partners to deploy MS Lync in SME environments....

Why all of the above? Because of the lack of group participation in creating Apps for VoipNow and the costs involved to create and maintain it. It's more feasible to go for the above route until VoipNow 3 Service Providers put in gear and are ready to create Apps!

  • Thank you for on using me in that google doc.

Seems like a lot of "lost hope" out there . Again we have the ability to build it, most of the base work is done. I am looking to hear real numbers of organizations and users out there that we an sell to. From looking only in the forums it's like maybe 20 installations of the product world wide?

That's sort of scary so I would like to hear some actual numbers.

We have 3 service providers with 22 organizations between them and 475 extensions in use .

We are not huge but we are growing monthly. Having things like monitoring and wall boards will just increase sales so we are developing for our self. If we see it's worth coding it our for other vn3 installs. We will.

Just need to hear and see that there actually are some real numbers of usersz

  • 20 installations?! Not a chance... we have over 20 ourselves!!
We're a 1st tier government licenced service provider, like a vodafone..with our own number range and fibre backhaul network... our data section is larger than VoIP, but VoIP is definitely growing despite the challenges.

Anyway, please update the online doc of what features you want, and we can engage with some programmers to create something.

Its good to see people discussing this, but someone needs to create these apps.

We have 2 x service providers for VN3 and at present have around 500 users using it, and this is growing on a month by month basis very quickly.

I am being asked all the time for Wall Boards/Click to Dial/Call Monitoring.

I would definitely pay for these apps, and would help increase sales!

  • Hey @Chase Martin. I did not see a reply. Since we are forced to share data amongst our selves. Can you tell me how many deployed extensions you may have out there?

Do you have a contact of your dev that "started to develop a call center application" we may be able to assist there. The harder parts are where we see people getting stuck and since we are in for a penny in for a pound on this... any info that you guys could share would be very helpful and maybe we could solve some of your issues. If we are going to run into them as well your help in giving the heads up would be great. Rather than having to go backward once we hit walls that have already been found.

We didn't really make much progress after finding out a lot of required API functions are missing. Just remember most of the system should be event driven, and push only changes to the client.
    • although it's not the best proactive i'm sure, we're happily polling the server ever few seconds for the info and storing it in a separate DB. we're then joining other data and manipulating the data to make it useful. like you say event driven would be great, but it's not.

the biggest hurdle is the lack of API functionality and data from the API...

  • This can be done without issue... if you could send me over maybe some mock up screens with the data you require? It would be a lot of help for us so that we can nail it down as we come across it... we have made some great progress and would like to have as many "apps" available as possible for when we launch the first one.

  • How exactly are you going to add API functions that do not currently exist?

I don't think that can be done without issue. That requires 4PSA to actually make them.

  • we have realized that there is going to be "Integrated" apps... things that access some components through the servers using the systemapi and the unified api... but reaching deeper into the system or having other items doing the work with it will be there too...

adding an "app" that talks to other services as well will be done over time... so the app LOOKS like it is only using the 4psa but it integrates other service and servers as well...

again... if it's to much to send over what it will look like and what you would like to see and have... no problem man. I can't make you do anything. We are just offering in a confident manner our ability to always say "Yes" when it comes to software.

  • Wanted to bring this back up to the top as I see a lot of new names in the forum.

I really do want to know how many people are building apps, have apps built and or want them immediately.

I'll spill the beans here a little... we have web based "Click 2 dial" and "monitoring" with all the needed feature in BETA right now...

I just want to know if its worth it to make it deployable globally and build out the "market place" for it so you guys can charge your clients and I can charge you :)

  • Hi Stephen, when you say you have "click2dial" functionality available, can you elaborate some more? It's probably the most popular request amongst our users in one form or another so we would definitely be interested to hear more.

The big BUT in all of this is that our users usually mean "Click 2 dial... from Outlook" - which given that your apps are API/web based I assume they don't do?

More info would be useful, if you have something we can use then I'm sure we can come to some arrangement :)

Also some more info on what you mean by "monitoring" would be appreciated.

  • Hello,

Not sure if anyone has looked at Switchvox, but I just watched a demo on the Switchvox switchboard. It has a lot of the features we have all asked for in one interface. Each feature can be enabled/disabled on a per user basis. It is web based and given the API in VoipNow, it seems like something along these lines would work for most if not all features. It would take a long time to get the full scope of options, but maybe something like this could be written in a progressive manner adding features along the way.

One way to work on this and to avoid any duplication of efforts to produce app features, 4PSA and some its customers can team up. I know not all of the customers have developers or have the resources to assist, but I would certainly license such a app on a per user basis and possibly a per user and per feature license. The ones that do assist, would get some sort of benefit from it whether it be using that app for free on their system, or some compensation.

Right now we are in the dark on what 4PSA is working on, anyone attempting to write apps at the moment could be doubling efforts to produce features. This to me, is huge waste of time and I would be extremely frustrated if I developed an app only to find out that the vendor had produced the same thing and had provided no indication as such. I feel like the above idea or something similar would provide us with the features we want without duplicating efforts.

again, just an idea and possibly one that may have been tossed out there already.

  • Anyone else interested in this?

So far the main apps we have seen are...

    Click to call (Browser based)
    Click to call (Outlook)
Call monitoring/coaching for calls in progress.

Other apps are things like "Wall boards" or "Queue monitoring" . Could any of you post a link or some screens of what you think that should be/do?

Really trying to build a case for the guys/devs on my side to build some of these bad boys... the 2 up top are most common and simple. I have seen some "Reports" created using system api but... need "App Ideas" and "Needs" from you... the license holders of vn3!
